Person of Interest - 1x02 Little Girl Lost...

Run, baby, run. (Photo: CBS)
Okay, so I'm behind this week. Real life, it does suck.

This second epsiode of Person of Interest, however, does not.

The PROS:

-- Reese is creepy good. Like, if he suddenly started talking to me in an elevator like he does tot he man who's cheating on his wife, I'd be climbing out the emergency hatch in the ceiling. Also, he probably should have let the hitmen have said cheater man, but that might be a little harsh of me.

-- What I like about this show is the cases sometimes have to be worked backwards. Which is why I prefer this to the standard procedural element of crime-evidence-leads-suspects-reveal. In this case, the crime is a couple of years old, the Machine just picked up on new evidence that Reese and Finch have to ferret out.

-- Backstory on Finch - how hilarious was big blonde woman trying to flirt with him in that office cubical? And the flashbacks to the birth of the Machine. But even the backstory left more questions than answers.

-- Any and ALL action where in Reese proudly displays his "Badass-Walking" banner. I would have never pegged Jim Caviezel as such an action hero, but he pulls it off pretty damn flawlessly. There's a lot about his steely-eyed, soft spoken delivery that reminds me of Viggo Mortensen.

-- I enjoy the fact that Reese's NYPD informant has virtually no redeeming qualities. He's the perfect balance of smarm and villainy.

-- NYPD Det. Carter, however, is made of win and I'd really like to see the face-to-face between her and Reese.

-- Reese trying to reassure the girl - YAY! We know the man isn't made of stone. Let's show that humaness more often, Show.

The CONs

-- The Machine is effing scary. I'm just saying. And having it have the capability to track everyone's everything is just...stalkerazi creepy.

-- Need more vulnerability from Finch too. Although I did enjoy his scenes with the girl. Don't make that man babysit another kid though, it might kill him.

-- The Machine's mechanics need to be better explained. I'm having a hard time grasping how it can find everything the guys need during a case.

The Verdict: Solid ground laying episode.

I want more backstory though. I know it has to be parceled out in bits, and while watching Reese and his continuous badassery is fun, I want to know more about him to be more invested in his character. The cases, for the first time in a long time, don't bore the hell out of me. Good on ya, Show.

But these characters are little more than ghosts to us now, and are still in need of fleshing out.
